With the start of the new International motorcycle road racing season a matter of days from officially beginning, with the opening round of the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship Britain’s Alex Murley wishes to advise of his 2019 plans.
Alex, a regular top ten finisher in WorldSSP300 in 2017 and a WorldSSP points contender last year will embark on an on-track programme that he hopes will springboard a return to the WorldSBK paddock in 2020.
He will begin by honing his Supersport skills in Spain with a view to competing in several rounds of the CEV Spanish Championship. Results dependent he will also consider a wildcard entry in WorldSSP in the latter part of the year.
The #18 rider remains focused and determined to return to top flight competition on a full-time basis in 2020 and thanks his loyal sponsors and supporters for all of their efforts over the last couple of years.
“Of course I had really hoped that I would be able to continue in World Supersport this year, I had such a great time and learned so much with Lorini Honda and from my crew chief Max last year but as everyone knows it all comes down to budget and so we had to have a rethink for this year. The plan for this year is to a) have fun, b) continue to learn and improve not only on track and c) put myself in the position to return to the WorldSBK paddock fitter, stronger and faster in 2020. The jump from World Supersport 300 is massive and I think that I showed that I can run with the best in the World, but I need more experience on a 600, and to do that I need to take a side step and get as much track time as possible. I want to say a big thank you to all my sponsors and supporters who continue to stand by me, and I look forward to whatever my on-track future holds.”
